In the spring and summer months, visitors can witness large flocks of migratory shorebirds such as sandpipers and plovers stopping by to rest along their long journeys. The park offers a variety of habitats which attract many different species of birds, including seabirds, wading birds, and woodland species. Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven is a great spot for bird watching. If you’re trying to get a good view of this lighthouse, you’ll want to bring binoculars or a telephoto lens. In addition to Five Mile Point Light, you can also see a second lighthouse from this park! The other lighthouse you can view is Southwest Ledge Light. The lighthouse was built with sandstone quarried from East Haven and it has a solid brick interior. Of course, the main attraction at this park is viewing the lighthouse! Five Mile Point Lighthouse is a 70 foot brick lighthouse. There’s plenty to do at this park along Long Island Sound!
